About Courtney Connery, LCAT, MPS
I'm a licensed therapist in private practice working with residents of NYC and New York State in-person and through telehealth. Since 2018 I have helped individuals overcome mental challenges through a compassionate and solution oriented approach. I enjoy working with adults and young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, life-transitions, relationship issues, ADHD, and low self esteem.
My Story
I received my masters degree in Art Therapy and Creativity Development from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. I have experience in private practice and hospital settings including Yale New Haven Hospital. Throughout my experience, I have developed an active and collaborative approach to therapy with my clients. Not only do I offer an empathetic ear - I work with clients to find solutions to real time problems they are facing through evidence based approaches like Art Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I also pride myself in assisting my clients to find acceptance in things they cannot change, to find autonomy in challenges, and to create meaning in their lives.

Social Anxiety
Everyone will face mental health challenges at some point in their lives. I consider it a part of my job to normalize this. Why? Because it is a natural part of the human experience and not something we should hide or deal with on our own.

Some of these issues arise from circumstance such as stress or grief. Some stem from our past experiences or trauma. Some come from being neurodivergent in a world designed for neurotypicals. I'm here to help you access the roots of your struggles and develop ways to cope, ways to accept, and ways to learn from them.

I tailor my approach according to each individual's needs. Need concrete change? Let's find the tools to do that. Need a safe space to process your feelings? I can offer you positive regard and empathetic understanding.

Here are some methods I utilize:
-
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to address unhealthy, distorted, or negative thought patterns which disrupt our thinking and functioning.
-
Art Therapy to express emotions in a nonverbal way, to practice mindfulness, and as a healthy outlet for our feelings.
-
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) to learn acceptance of emotions, mindfulness, and identify values in order to enact positive change.
